  3.     Welcome to THE DARKROOM BBS's TERMINAT/TERMAIL Setup Help File.

  8.       For TERMINAT 4.0, the reader is called TERMAIL and resides in
  9.       the directory \TERMINAT\TERMAIL. The configuration files you need
  10.       to edit are TM.CFG and TM.BBS.
  11.

  14. Please read the directions that were included in your original TERMAIL
  15. archive copy ie: TM.BBS and TM.CFG. Each required file is well
  16. documented. This addition is an UNOFFICIAL help file created for the
  17. benefit of our user's.
  18.  
  19. Included in this archive is a "working copy" of MY TMAIL and TMNICE
  20. directory and setup. Please follow the enclosed directions carefully
  21. and TO THE LETTER!
  22.

  24. NOTE: My directory listings are a but "different" from the norm, as I like 
  25.       keep directory names short, as well as my AUTOEXEC.BAT & CONFIG.SYS
  26.       files and paths, short. Therefore, my Terminate "stuff" is, as follows;

  30.       C:\_     <-- Root Directory of Drive C
  31.          |______UTIL <-- Util Directory for all but Compression Utilities
  32.          |______ZIP  <--Directory for all Compression utilities
  33.          |______EP  <-- Directory for all External Protocols; GSZ, DSZ, HS/Link,
  34.          |______AF  <--Main Allfix directory
  35.          |______TE\__  <--Main Terminate Directory
  36.                       \__Termail  <-- Termail Directory
  37.                            \__TMNIce  <-- TMNice Directory
  38.                             \__Spell  <-- ShareSpell Directory
  39.                              \__PGP   <-- TERPGP Directory
  40.                                \__ECHO <--Directory for All Messages
  41.                                  \__ Etc, Etc, Etc, I believe you get the idea.

  45. 1st.  Copy the TM.CFG & TM.BBS files to your TERMAIL directory and edit
  46.       them to suit your system. It is assumed that TerMail
  47.       resides in a sub-directory off TERMINAT, ie:
  48.  
  49.                   C:\TERMINAT\TERMAIL    or,
  50.                   C:\TE\TERMAIL          or, <This is MY setup>
  51.                   C:\TERM\TERMAIL
  52.  
  53.      Be sure to edit these files to suit your system ie; be sure the
  54.      directories, etc., are correct.
  55.  
  56.       Be sure the inbound mail is pointed to your ..\IN\ directory and
  57.       you indeed have a \IN\ subdirectory off Terminat.
  58.  
  59.       Now, we start editing the configuration files, TM.CFG and TM.BBS.
  60.  
  61.       Edit the USER lists and replace my name and addresses with your's,
  62.       if you will only have one adderss, then REM out the others ie: %
  63.       or delete them.
  64.  
  65.       Edit the ORIGIN lines to suit your system and remove the references
  66.       to THE DARKROOM BBS, and any/all network addresses as they WILL NOT
  67.       work on your system.
  68.  
  69.       Check the Archivers and be sure to REM out all those you DO NOT have
  70.       and be sure those you DO have, are included in your path. I keep ALL
  71.       mine in a directory C:\ZIP and that directory is in my path. Same for
  72.       your prefered editor (I use QEDIT) and keep it in C:\UTIL that is
  73.       also included in my path.

  75.       If you don't understand the "path statement" look at your AUTOEXEC.
  76.       BAT file, ie: from the DOS prompt, type EDIT AUTOEXEC.BAT and hit
  77.       enter. Look for a line that says PATH=C:\DOS;C:\;C:\WINDOWS;, etc.
  78.       Just be sure that your archivers and editor is in a directory listed
  79.       in that path statement. (all the utilities refered to can be found
  80.       on our BBS and are available for download by ALL callers)

  82.       The recommended utilities (at least to get you started) are:

  84.            LIST.COM  ---  LIST90E.ZIP   <--File listing/viewing utility
  85.            QEDIT.EXE ---  QEDIT4.ZIP    <-- Excellent ASCII Text Editor
  86.            SS.EXE    ---  SS302.ZIP     <-- ShareSpell Spell Checker
  87.            PKZIP     ---  PKZ204G.EXE   <-- PKZip/UNzip v2.04g
  88.            ARJ       ---  ARJ250.EXE    <-- ARJ archive utility
  89.            NODELIST  ---  NODELIST.ZIP  <-- Current FIDOnet Nodelist

  91.       These will get you started and you can add more as your needs
  92.       increase.

  94.       Lastly, delete ALL the echo desc files (the last items in the CFG
  95.       file) ie:

  102.       After deleting ALL these, you can save the TM.CFG file. These
  103.       echo's will be automatically added, as you receive new packets both
  104.       FIDO and QWK.
  105.  
  106. 2nd.  Now edit the TM.BBS file. This one controls where your echomail
  107.       and QWK mail is placed. All you have to do is DELETE all the lines
  108.       that describe the ECHO areas ie:

  117.       All these lines can be deleted as they will be recreated with the
  118.       ECHO areas YOU are receiving. Now save this file as well.
  119.  
  120.       Be sure to make a backup of your current \TERMAIL\ directory then, 
  121.       copy this from your temporary directory to your \TERMAIL\ directory.
  122.  
  123. 3rd.  Create a sub-directory called TMNICE off your \TERMAIL\directory ie;
  124.  
  125.            MD C:\TERMINAT\TERMAIL\TMNICE     or,
  126.            MD C:\TE\TERMAIL\TMNICE           or,
  127.            MD C:\TERM\TERMAIL\TMNICE
  128.  
  129.        Once created, unpack the file TMNICE42.ZIP into that newly created
  130.        directory. You can edit the tagline file &TMNICE.TAG to include
  131.        any tagline you want. If you get confused, read the included
  132.        DO_THIS.1ST file for additional help.
  133.        Run the program TMN-CONF.EXE and answer the questions suiting your
  134.        system. This created the TMNICE.INI control file. I have included
  135.        a copy of my TMNICE.INI that can be manually edited.

  137.        The enclosed TMNICE.INI shows you how to have multiple "signature"
  138.        files, all inserted automatically, by TMNICE. Don't be afraid to
  139.        expirement. That's the best way to learn YOUR system.

  142. With the addition of QEDIT and ShareSpell, you will be ready to enjoy all
  143. the features of TerMail for both QWK and FIDO packet reading/replying.
